Tanning salons  and tanning beds are everywhere! Are tanning beds safe?  In the tanning industry you can't use the word "safe."  Tanning in a tanning bed is a lot more desirable than tanning outdoors.   Why, you ask?  The short answer is that when you are using a tanning bed it is actually a measured dose.  When you are tanning outside you really are not sure how many UV rays you are getting.

What can you do to make your indoor tanning experience as safe as possible?  First of all, follow the tanning bed manufacturers exposure recommendation on the label.  Whatever you do, do not tan twice in one day.  This includes tanning in the tanning bed or tanning outside or a combination of the two.

Another important factor when tanning is to use a good tanning lotion.  When you are tanning outdoors you should use a tanning lotion with an SPF.  An SPF 15 is recommended.  When you are using a tanning bed, you should use a tanning bed lotion.  There are several types of indoor tanning lotions.  There are bronzer tanning lotions, tingle tanning lotions, plain tanning accelerators and combinations of the two.  Now they even have dual bronzers, triple bronzers and even a tanning lotion with 18 bronzers.  Make sure that when you tan that you use a tanning lotion, even if it is a cheap tanning lotion.

The newest addition to tanning is actually is not even tanning at all.  The sunless tanning craze is taking a major share of the indoor tanning market.  There are several types of sunless tanning.  There is sunless tanning lotion, sunless tanning gel, sunless tanning spray, and even sunless tanning spray booths.  The sunless tanning industry is definately on the move.
